Collaborative Divorce

Resolving Your Family Law Matters without Court Intervention

When you have decided to end your marriage, but want to minimize the anger, hostility and grief involved, the collaborative approach to divorce may be the best solution. In addition to working cooperatively to find mutually beneficial ways to settle your difference, you can avoid the emotional and financial costs of litigation. You want an attorney experienced in the collaborative process, one who has successfully worked with others to resolve disputes without the intervention of the courts.

At the Law Offices of Betty Ann Spencer, I provide a full range of divorce services to men and women throughout Sonoma County, including representation in the collaborative divorce process. Experienced and approachable, I focus my efforts on providing a place where you and your children come first, where you are free to experience all the emotions involved in a family law matter benefiting from the advice of a lawyer who is also a licensed mental health professional.

For a free 30 minute initial consultation, contact me or call my office at (707) 570-2424.

Collaborative Approach for Divorce with Integrity

In the collaborative approach to divorce, you and your ex-spouse agree to work together to resolve your differences without having determinations made by a court. Unlike divorce mediation, both parties are represented by counsel in the collaborative approach. Both lawyers are obligated to help the parties reach a settlement agreement based on their fundamental economic and emotional needs. Properly conducted, the collaborative process can help you build better communication with each other and develop good co-parenting skills.

Often, outside experts (such as family counselors or accountants) will be called upon to provide advice regarding such issues as the best interests of your children or how to properly divide debts and assets. If you are able to come to agreement on all issues, you and your ex-spouse will sign a contract setting forth the terms.

At the Law Offices of Betty Ann Spencer, I have been representing clients in collaborative divorce proceedings since the late 1990s. A licensed marriage family therapist as well as an attorney, I am a founding member of The Collaborative Council of the Redwood Empire (CCRE). I have consistently met the demanding ongoing professional training requirements and practice standard of the industry's professional organizations, including the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, CCRE and Collaborative Practice California. I also regularly exceed the annual continuing education and training standards for California attorneys and licensed marriage family therapists.

To schedule a free 30 minute initial consultation, contact my office or call me at (707) 570-2424. I am available to meet with clients between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. I accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
